Knoxville (WVLT/AP) -- Tennessee sophomore guard Duke Crews is back practicing with the Vols basketball team. Crews served a 30-day suspension after he violated team rules. Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl suspended Crews on September 26th.
Coach Bruce Pearl told The Knoxville News Sentinel he suspended Crews a month ago for being late to several team functions and because a minor amount of marijuana was found in his campus apartment.
Crews wasn't present for the search of the apartment which he shares with other students. No charges were filed.
Pearl says Crews is in pretty good shape considering he's had a month off, but will remain on the Vols' scout team this week as Tennessee prepares to host California-Pennsylvania in an exhibition on Friday night. Pearl did not indicate whether Crews would play in the game.
The Hampton, Virginia, native averaged 8 points and 5 rebounds while leading the Vols in blocked shots with 32 as a true freshman last season.
The Vols, who are ranked #7 in the preseason USA Today/ ESPN coaches' poll, open up the exhibition portion of their schedule this Friday night at 7:30 at Thompson-Boling Arena.
