(WVLT) -- After defeating Gonzaga, 82-72, in Seattle Dec. 28, the Tennessee basketball team got a six-day layoff.
It'll come in handy, as the Vols welcome the undefeated Ole Miss Rebels to Thompson-Boling Arena Wednesday in a battle of two of the SEC's best teams.
The No. 18 Rebels (13-0) are off to the best start in school history, cracking the top 25 for the first time in seven seasons. Ole Miss ranks third in the SEC and eighth in the nation putting up 86.2 points per game, while also boasting one of the best rebounding teams in the country with an SEC-best and seventh-nationally 42.8 boards per game.
Meanwhile, Tennessee is rolling after a big win against Gonzaga to end 2007. JaJaun Smith led six Vols in double-figure scoring with 18 points while Tyler Smith registered a double-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
Arizona transfer J.P. Prince has been a huge spark for the Vols, averaging 14 points and four rebounds in the four-game stretch since he became eligible in mid-December.
The Vols have won seven of their last eight conference openers, while Ole Miss is 5-9 in its last 14 SEC debuts. Last year the Rebels knocked off the Vols in Oxford, 83-69.
The Vols and Rebels tip off at 8pm, and WVLT will carry the Raycom Sports telecast, as well as providing premium pregame and postgame analysis of the Vols' SEC opener.
