Former Vol BBall Player Tony Passley Transfers To Southern Indiana University

The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball program announced the transfer of forward Tony Passley (Indianapolis, Indiana) from the University of Tennessee. Passley, who will have two years of eligibility left at USI, is the sixth player to commit to USI and Head Coach Rick Herdes for 2007-08.
He'll be able to play immediately.

During his only season for the Volunteers, Passley averaged 1.8 points and 1.7 rebounds in 17 games. He had a season-high seven points and four assists versus Coppin State University; six rebounds against Middle Tennessee State University and the University of North Carolina; and two blocks against UNC. Passley redshirted at Tennessee in 2005-06.

The native of Indianapolis, Indiana, began his collegiate career at Redlands Community College in 2004-05. He averaged 10.3 points and 5.5 rebounds during his one year with the Cougars.

Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Passley was a first team All-State selection by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and was a member of the 2004 Indianapolis Star All-Star team while playing for North Central High School (Indianapolis, Indiana). He also was a three-time All-Conference honoree and was named All-Marion County by the Indianapolis Star.

Passley averaged 17.2 points and 7.5 rebounds as a senior and 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds as junior at NCHS. He scored a career-high 36 points in a win over Mason County (Kentucky) High School.

"Tony is an outstanding athlete," said Herdes. "He has the ability to get to the bucket and be a scorer. Plus with his size and jumping ability he will be a presence on the boards."

Passley joins the 2007-08 recruiting class that includes forwards Norman Plummer (Cincinnati, Ohio), Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York) and Nate Schumacher (Evansville, Indiana); guard Tyson Schnitker; and guard/forward Nick Duncheon (Montgomery, Indiana) Pimble, Plummer, and Schnitker joined the team this spring, while Schumacher and Duncheon signed with the Eagles during the fall.

Passley got in trouble as a Tennessee Basketball player back in the Spring of 2006.
He was arrested for Crack Cocaine Possession, but those charges were dropped, though Passley did plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of Marijuana Possession, which has recently been removed from his record.
