KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Head Women’s Basketball Coach Holly Warlick has added a fifth player to the Lady Vols’ 2011-12 signing class. Warlick announced Friday that Nia Moore, a 6-foot-3 forward from Bolingbrook, Ill., has joined the program.
Garnering a great deal of respect for her abilities as a defender and shot-blocker, Moore played alongside rising Lady Vol sophomore Ariel Massengale on the 2010-11 state championship team at Bolingbrook High School after spending her first two seasons at Morgan Park. Along with twin sister, Annaya, she was one of seven players on the 2011-12 BHS roster to sign with Division I schools and averaged nine points, seven rebounds and 2.2 blocks on that squad. Moore originally inked with Illinois but was granted a release and is eligible to compete immediately for UT.
A second-team Illinois Basketball Coaches Association 3A-4A All-State selection, Moore is a three-star recruit, according to HoopGurlz. That organization ranked her as the 82nd-best forward in the class nationally and referred to her as a “shot-blocker/changer.” She played her summer basketball with the Illinois Dream Team.
“Nia Moore will be a great addition to our program,” Warlick said. “She’s a tremendous athlete with big upside and runs the floor extremely well. I see her fitting in nicely with our offense. That said, she’s a defensive stopper and has a presence on the floor. We’re just tremendously fortunate to get a player of her caliber this late in the signing period.”
Moore joins junior college transfer Jasmine Philips of Louisburg (N.C.) College, whose signing was announced on Tuesday, as well as previous prep signees Andraya Carter, a 5-8 point guard from Buford, Ga. (Buford H.S.), Bashaara Graves, a 6-2 forward from Clarksville, Tenn. (Clarksville H.S.), and Jasmine Jones, a 6-1 forward from Madison, Ala. (Bob Jones H.S.).
