Kentucky freshman to miss season with heart issue

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Kentucky has announced that freshman forward Kyvin Goodin-Rogers will miss this season with a heart condition.

Wildcats coach Matthew Mitchell said in a statement Wednesday that the 6-foot-1 Goodin-Rogers went to the team trainer on Monday with sharp chest pains. Tests confirmed she has a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot condition that requires her to be on blood thinners for several months.

Mitchell says, "Kyvin's health in our main concern right now."

The 18-year-old Goodin-Rogers was expected to be a key contributor to a Kentucky team seeking its first Final Four berth. The forward averaged 12.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.4 blocks per game last season, teaming with fellow Wildcat freshman Makayla Epps to help Marion County (39-0) win its first Kentucky state high school championship.
