DAYTON, Ohio (WVLT) -- The Lady Vols beat Ohio State 85-75 in the Sweet 16 Saturday to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time in three seasons and 24th time in team history.
Shekinna Stricklen led the way with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Meighan Simmons contributed 18 points and Kelley Cain had 16.
Pat Summitt's team trailed 42-40 at the break after allowing the Buckeyes to make several open shots. But the team made halftime adjustments and played more effectively in the second half.
"They responded well [after halftime]," Summitt told ESPN after the game. "Our intensity level just went to another place. We needed it."
Simmons was key in the Lady Vols' second-half resurgence. In addition to 18 points, she finished the day with five rebounds and five assists.
"My teammates uplifted me a lot and told me to keep my head in the game and work hard," Simmons said. "I kept my composure today, moved the ball and took care of the ball as well."
Tennessee plays the winner of the Notre Dame-Oklahoma game in the Elite Eight Monday night in Dayton.
