Lady Vols rout Carson-Newman in exhibition opener

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT-TV) -- Finally able to put the questions about her illness behind her, Coach Pat Summitt led her Lady Vols onto the Summitt floor Tuesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena for an exhibition game against Carson-Newman.

In what was a wonderful gesture, the Lady Eagles wore we back
Pat t-shirts during warm-ups. You'll certainly be seeing much more of that as the season progresses.

However, once the game started, the Eagles would be grounded by what is an extremely athletic and senior laden Lady Vols squad.

Third ranked Tennessee jumped out early and never let off the gas against their visitors from Jefferson City. Tennessee led 48-15 at the half and went on to win dress rehearsal number one 105-40.

Tennessee had six players finish in double figures led by Alicia Manning's 23. Named AP pre-season All American today, senior Shekinna Stricklen added 12 points against the eagles. The Lady Vols debuted their terrific freshman trio of Ariel Massengale, Ciera Burdick and Isabelle Harrison. Burdick pumped in 15 in her UT debut. As a team, the Lady Vols shot 44 percent from the field and 26 percent from the three point line.

The Lady Vols return to action November 8th for another exhibition game against Union University.
