Martin to coach at World University Games

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin will serve as an assistant coach for the USA national team at the World University Games in China in August.

Martin will join former boss and current Purdue coach Matt Painter, who will be the USA team's head coach, and Butler coach Brad Stevens will serve as another assistant. He says he's honored and excited about the opportunity to represent the United States and thinks the experience will help him become a better coach.

The coaches will spend 10 days in Colorado Springs, Colo., working with 19 Division I players vying for a spot on the 12-man roster. Among those players is Vanderbilt guard John Jenkins, Kentucky guard Darius Miller and Alabama forward Tony Mitchell.

The World University Games are Aug. 13-22 in Shenzhen, China.
