BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WVLT) -- Eleven SEC presidents and conference officials are meeting this weekend to discuss the possibility of admitting Texas A&M into the league, according to the New York Times.

Meanwhile, the Houston Chronicle is reporting that A&M has decided to leave the Big 12 and join the SEC, should it be invited.

The Times article suggest that the SEC would only admit A&M if it could also find a 14th team to join the league. Among those options would be Florida State, Clemson and Georgia Tech.

“We realize if we do this, we have to have the 14th,” the official said in the report. “No name has been thrown out. This thing is much slower out of the chute than the media and blogs have made it.”

The Texas A&M regents are speeding up their end of the process. They pushed up a scheduled August 22nd meeting to discuss the move from the Big 12.
