Tennessee receives letter of allegations from NCAA

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The University of Tennessee has told WVLT that the school has received its letter of allegations from the NCAA.

The notice details the infractions committed by the men's basketball and football teams.

It describes in detail impermissible phone calls and visits to recruits made by both programs.

The notice of allegations implicates most of Bruce Pearl's coaching staff in violations of NCAA regulations. The report states that Bruce Pearl, "acted contrary to the principals of ethical conduct when he knowingly engaged in violations of NCAA recruiting legislation."

In regards to football the report focused specifically on Kiffin's time at Tennessee the report alleges that Kiffin failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance and failed to monitor his coaches and program.

Despite reports made by various media outlets, there are no allegations against the baseball team.

The NCAA has requested a mountain of paperwork form the University to prove that UT maintained some manner of compliance and monitored it coaches and the athletic programs detailed in the report.

Tennessee has canceled basketball practice for today, in effect making Pearl unavailable to the media.

SEC commissioner Mike Slive suspended Pearl for UT's first eight conference games after Pearl misled the NCAA about a barbecue at his house that high school student-athletes attended.

A UT official has told WVLT that the release of the letter to the media is imminent, possibly as early as Wednesday.

Now that Tennessee has received the notice, it has 90 days to respond to the allegations. UT would then likely go in front of the NCAA infractions committee in June.

WVLT has been told the university will not hold a press conference regarding the NCAA's findings.
