KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- A pair of Tennessee signees have asked for releases from their basketball scholarships to Tennessee, according to reports.

Chris Jones and Kevin Ware, the only two members of the Vols' 2011 recruiting class, have both requested that they be released from their letters of intent following the firing of coach Bruce Pearl and his assistants.

Ware, a shooting guard from Georgia, told that he has sent Tennessee a letter asking for his release; however, a UT spokesman told Volunteer TV Tuesday that the University had not received any such communication from Ware.

Jones, a point guard from Memphis attending prep school in North Carolina, told WNML's Josh Ward that he also asked for his release.

A UT official told Volunteer TV that the University's stance is typically to wait until a new head coach is hired, and to allow that coach to decide whether to release players.

I agree with Cory, firing Pearl was a terrible mistake that will have dire consequences for the basketball program for years to come. What coach will want to come to Tennessee knowing if they make a mistake the University will not have your back no matter what you have done for the school. Hamilton and Cheek treated Pearl like Kiffin treated UT!

I say let those young man out of their contracts. After all, they should not be forced to stay with UT when the coach they signed up for has been so wrongfully fired. If I were the parents of these young men I would try to every thing in my power to sue for the release as it is unfair to punish the young men for your mistakes. If you want to really do the right thing-FIRE MIKE HAMILTON AND MAN UP TO YOUR MISTAKES MR.CHEEK!!! I for one will never never support the men's basketball team again--i don't care who you hire. It is over. You are too stupid for my support EMOTIONALLY AND FINANCIALLY. And I tell you something else. If you were doing such a good job, Hamilton, you would have known how passionate Bruce Pearl was before you hired him by researching his background. So, is he a bad man? NO! Did you do your job when you hired him--NO! MAN UP HAMILTON!!!!!YOU NEED TO PACK YOUR BAGS AND LEAVE WHILE YOU HAVE A STRAND OF DIGNITY LEFT!!GET OUT OF UT AND OUT OF THE WHOLE STATE!!

I can't believe they fired the best coach in UT mens basketball history!!! Did he make some mistakes?...yes..was he willing to accept the consequences? yes..Most passionate coaches make mistakes at one time or other. Bruce Pearl has been the best thing to Tennessee Men's basketball EVER..Period!! Mike Hamilton should be packing his bags to leave town soon!!! To make the comments he made Last Wednesday on the radio for the media about the uncertainty of Coach Pearl's status was VERY Unprofessional! You are dealing with fragile kids all season and you make those comments before the NCAA first round game??? Obviously Mike hamilton is cut out to be an accountant...He needs to stick to numbers and stay out of dealing with people!!
