Simmons named SEC Freshman of the Week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Tennessee guard Meighan Simmons has been named SEC Freshman of the Week.

In her first game starting at point guard last week, Simmons scored a career-high 28 points and dished out a career-high five assists in against Lamar.

Against Old Dominion on Sunday, Simmons led the Lady Vols in scoring with 14 points. She has scored in double figures in all nine of her Lady Vol games.

On the week, Simmons scored 42 points and added four rebounds, nine assists, four steals and a block. She shot 48.4%; 45.0% from behind the arc.

Tennessee plays at Texas Sunday, Dec. 12.
