Stricklen day-to-day with sprained knee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (release) – Jenny Moshak, University of Tennessee Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine, announced this evening that Lady Vol basketball senior guard-forward-center Shekinna Stricklen (Morrilton, Ark.) suffered a sprained right knee in the game against Vanderbilt on Sun., Jan. 15.

“Diagnostic testing and further evaluation confirmed that Shekinna suffered a right knee sprain in the game yesterday,” Moshak said. “We have already started the rehab process and her status is listed as day-to-day.”

In the Southeastern Conference meeting with #25/24-ranked Vanderbilt in Knoxville, Tenn., on Sunday, Stricklen suffered the knee sprain after a colliding with a Vanderbilt player while both were going after a rebound along the baseline in the second half.

Stricklen had to be helped from the floor by the UT sports medicine staff after scoring a team leading 20 points in 35 minutes of action in the 87-64 victory over the Commodores.

The senior All-American leads the Lady Vols in scoring with 15.5 ppg and adds 6.4 rpg. Tennessee (13-4 overall, 4-1 SEC) begin preparations on Tues., Jan. 17 for LSU (13-4 overall, 4-1 SEC), coached by former Lady Vol player Nikki Caldwell. The Lady Tigers roll into Knoxville for a key SEC meeting on Thurs., Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. (CSS).
