The University of Tennessee men’s and women’s basketball teams will host games this season to support Coach Pat Summitt after her announcement of early onset dementia, Alzheimer's Type in late August.
To coincide with National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month the matchup between the No. 3 Tennessee Lady Vols and the No. 1 Baylor Lady Bears on Sunday, November 27th at 2 p.m. (ESPN) has been designated as the first of two, “We Back Pat” games.
Then in January, when Coach Cuonzo Martin and the Vols take on the No. 4 Connecticut Huskies on January 21st (CBS) additional efforts will take place in conjunction with the campaign.
“From the beginning, the goal of the ‘We Back Pat’ campaign has been to give fans the opportunity to demonstrate a unified effort of support for Coach Summitt while generating exposure and funding for early onset dementia and Alzheimer's services and research,” said Tennessee Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Dave Hart.
The Tennessee Athletic Department is asking fans attending the games to wear the official “We Back Pat” shirt to the game. Fans in need of a shirt can purchase one at The UT Bookstore, the Official Team Shop of Tennessee Athletics. The shirts will be available in the University Center and Stokely Athletics Center stores, as well as area Food City and Walgreens stores. The shirts are $10, with $4.25 of every shirt going to research.
In a pre-game ceremony at the Baylor game, checks will be presented to Alzheimer’s Tennessee and UT Medical Center, as the `We Back Pat' t-shirts have already generated more than $150,000 in donations. The proceeds from the campaign will help directly impact those living with the disease here in the state of Tennessee.
Tickets for the Tennessee vs. Baylor game can be purchased and printed online at www.uttix.com or by calling the Tennessee Athletic Ticket Office at 865-656-1200.
