Tennessee's "Bearded Ballers" make statement

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Tennessee basketball team will have a different look this season, but it has nothing to do with what they are wearing.

Several Vol basketball players are rocking beards. "It's just something that we kind of fell into and we all just kind of kept it going you know," said a bearded Jerrone Maymon. Point guard Trae Golden believes it has a certain intimidation factor, "Let me tell you right now. You roll into Thompson-Boling and you see a bunch of big buff guys with beards it's scarier than rolling in seeing bigger buff guys with nothing."

Skylar McBee likes the idea of an all beard lineup,"I don't know, but that would be really cool. I'd like to see what that looks like. I hope everyone eventually grows one. I think that could be a team bonding thing."

But not everyone is on board with the beards. A smooth faced Josh Richardson had this to say on the subject, "Beards are in I guess. I guess I'm not with the trend and I probably won't be for a long time."
Jarnell Stokes added, "I'm never growing my hair out. I'm keeping my hair like this. Honestly I think it looks ugly. But I wouldn't tell them that."
