KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee guard Meighan Simmons has been named the Southeastern Conference freshman of the week for a second time this season.
Simmons led the Lady Vols (10-2) in their 82-72 overtime win against Stanford on Sunday night with 23 points, including a 3-pointer with 48 seconds left that forced the extra time. The victory helped boost Tennessee one spot in the AP Top 25 poll to No. 5 on Monday.
Simmons also scored 22 points in a loss at No. 2 Texas on Tuesday.
The 5-foot-9 Cibolo, Texas, native ranks second in the SEC in scoring with 17.8 points per game this season. She has reached double-figure scoring in 12 straight contests, ranking just behind the 14 straight double-figure scoring games Chamique Holdsclaw had to begin her career.
