Tennessee senior associate athletic trainer Chad Newman has reported that rising junior basketball player Trae Golden underwent arthroscopic surgery to address a meniscus injury in his left knee Tuesday at UT Medical Center.
Recent swelling prompted Tuesday’s surgery. Newman said the procedure went well, and an initial estimate for Golden’s return to activity is set at 4-5 weeks.
A point guard from Powder Springs, Ga., Golden was Tennessee’s overall scoring and assists leader during the 2011-12 campaign, averaging 13.6 points and 4.5 assists per game. He also played a team-high 32.0 minutes per game while shooting .439 from the field, .388 from 3-point range and .828 from the free-throw line. Golden started 33 of UT’s 34 games.
