(UNDATED) -- Tennessee basketball player Josh Richardson is one of several Division I collegians who will be traveling to Poland and Germany as part of an exhibition tour later this spring with Athletes In Action.
The team trip takes place May 26 – June 10 and includes stops in Krakow, Dusseldorf and Berlin. The team also will tour the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp.
After beginning the trip with five practice days in Poland, the squad will play three games against the Polish National Team (June 1-3) before traveling to Germany to face five professional club teams (Essen, Dusseldorf, Paderborn, Alba and Stahnsdorf).
A rising sophomore guard, Richardson is looking forward to his first trip abroad.
“I’m really excited for this opportunity to travel overseas,” Richardson said. “Not only to play basketball, but to help teach kids about the game and share my witness with people in other countries.”
Richardson – who will return to Europe in August when the Volunteers tour Italy – appeared in all 34 games for Tennessee last season, with nine starts. He averaged 2.9 points and 1.4 rebounds in 16.0 minutes per game and excelled defensively as one of the team’s top perimeter defenders. Among UT’s first-year players, he was the leader in steals with 18.
Athletes in Action is a global pioneer, innovator and servant leader in sport ministry. Since 1966, AIA has committed to sharing a victory beyond competition that is found only in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Tennessee assistant coach Kent Williams was selected in 2010 to serve as head coach for a team of Division I student-athletes during an AIA summer tour of Poland. His squad finished the tour undefeated.
