KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee guard Antonio Barton missed a 105-80 exhibition victory over Florida Southern on Saturday with an injured left leg, but Volunteers coach Cuonzo Martin remains optimistic the Memphis transfer will be ready for the start of the season.
The Vols play one more preseason game Thursday against Southern Indiana before opening the regular season Nov. 12 at Xavier.
Barton hurt his leg in an Oct. 25 practice. Martin said that "I think it's more day to day than anything. I think he'll be (ready) that Xavier game, but we'll see how it goes."
Darius Thompson started in Barton's place and had nine points and four assists. Jarnell Stokes led Tennessee with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan McRae had 21 points and Robert Hubbs III had 17 points. Jeronne Maymon had eight points and seven rebounds in his first game since redshirting last season with an injured left knee.
