Vols long range shooting does in UTC, 76-63

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (release) -- Trae Golden (career-high tying 29) and Skylar McBee (career-high 16) combined for 45 points as the Vols topped Chattanooga in a 3-point fest, 76-63.

The squads combined for 24-of-65 from 3-point range with the Vols (7-6) making 13-of-39 from trifecta land. Tennessee won its fourth game in a row to wrap up a four-game homestand before heading to Memphis on Wednesday night.

Tennessee's 3-point attempts mark of 39 are the second-most in school history. The Vols attempted a record 50 vs. North Carolina A&T (11/27/07).

Playing just three days after having nasal fracture surgery, Golden was stellar all night, shooting 11-of-17 from the floor. Jeronne Maymon grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds as the Vols won the battle of the boards 45-37. Cameron Tatum handed out a career-high six assists in the win.

Jordan McRae returned to his scoring ways with 12 points after combining for eight points in the previous three games.
Ricky Taylor led the Mocs (6-9) with 17 points.

The first half saw the teams dual from beyond the 3-point arc as the teams combined to shoot 15-of-39 as the Vols broke out to a 44-32 lead behind 9-of-24 on 3-pointers. The 24 attempts is the second-most in a half in school history. On Nov 27, 2007, the Vols shot 10-of-33 vs. North Carolina A&T on the way to attempting a school-record 50 treys.

The Vols used a 16-1 run to take a 38-27 as 3-pointers ruled the day as McBee bombed his fifth of the half with 1:52 left in the first half.
After being down by as many as seven, the Vols rallied to regain the lead at 27-26 on a putback by Renaldo Woolridge with 4:10 left in the first half.

UTC used a 14-0 run to take its first lead of the game at 18-16 with 7:51 left in the first half and that ballooned to 23-16 with 6:47 left in the half on a Drazen Zlovaric lay-up (just the second 2-point basket of the half for UTC). The Vols were held scoreless for three minutes between 3-pointers from Renaldo Woolridge and McBee.

Tennessee opened the game on a 7-0 run as Golden opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, 14 seconds into the action.

The Vols head to Memphis for their final road non-conference game at another interstate foe, Memphis. That game tips at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday at FedEx Forum. The game will air on FoxSports South and can be heard on the Vol Network. Tennessee returns home to host No. 13/14 Florida on Saturday at 11 a.m. to open SEC play.
