An evening with Johnny Majors and Bob Kesling

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (utsports.com)-
The Morristown Rotary Club is hosting a Fundraising Dinner for the construction of a new Morristown Rotary 18 Hole Disc Golf Course to be constructed at Frank Lorino Park located in the heart of Morristown. The fundraising event is scheduled for April 24, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at The Country Club in Morristown, TN. Featured speakers include Johnny Majors, former University of Tennessee Football Coach, and Bob Kesling, Voice of the Vols. Dinner music will be presented by The Al Curtis Orchestra, Russell Ramsey, Director.

“Our club is excited to take the lead in the development of this new 18-hole disk golf course that will enhance the quality of life within our community.” said David Culvern, Morristown Rotary President, “and we will look forward to welcoming our local and out-of-town guests who will enjoy this new, public disk golf course.”

Ticket prices are $100 per person, $750 for 8 tickets or $1000 for 2 dinner tickets and a sponsorship of one Disc Golf hole on the new course.

Johnny Majors is a former football player and coach. He was a standout halfback at the University of Tennessee, and was an All-American in 1956 and a two-time winner of the Southeastern Conference Most Valuable Player award in 1955 and again in 1956.

Majors served as the head football coach at Iowa State University, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Tennessee. In 1987 Majors was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a player.

While coaching at Tennessee from 1977 to 1992, Majors achieved success by winning three SEC championships in 1985, 1989 and 1990.
The City of Knoxville named the street where the University of Tennessee’s practice facility is located after Majors.

Bob Kesling was named the University of Tennessee Director of Broadcasting and lead play-by-play voice of the Vol Network in July of 1999. He is the host of the Derek Dooley and Cuonzo Martin TV shows on the Vol Network and does play-by-play for Tennessee baseball and Lady Vol basketball on the Vol Television Network carried by Fox Sportsouth. Kesling serves as the host for the Vol Network's weekly hour long state-wide radio call-in show Vol Calls and the Big Orange Hotline during the football season.

Kesling began his association with the University of Tennessee as a walk-on fullback on the 1972 freshman football team. He began his broadcasting career while a student at Tennessee in 1974 as a film editor on the Bill Battle TV Show working for John Ward. In 1976 he joined the Vol Network as a pre and post game host and served as John Ward's spotter. Kesling spent 15 years sitting next to the legendary "Voice of the Vols" as his spotter and working on Vol Network broadcasts.

He is a four time winner of the Sportscaster of the Year in the State of Tennessee.
