Knoxville, Tenn.--(WVLT-TV) Tennessee football head coach Butch Jones graced us with his presence for a promotional shoot Thursday. WVLT of course, the flagship station of the Vol Network.
Butch was in front of the bright lights Thursday morning, doing a fantastic job of delivering line after line, but it's football that coach Jones is really wanting to talk about. He enters this season, his first at Tennessee, with several question marks and with the season quickly approaching, butch is very aware of how far that opening game is on the calendar:
"Well there is great anticipation and obviously we are looking forward to it. I believe there are 65 days left until it's football time in Tennessee. So we have the countdown going, but I wish we had a little more time to continue to develop and grow our football team. But the kids are working exceptionally hard right now so we're looking forward to the start of August camp."
Butch Jones is close friends with Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra. The two share the same agent and Butch was in Miami for Game 7 when the Heat won the title.
You can expect to see spoelstra on the ut sideline this season during practices and games:
"Well, he'll be here. And he's from Oregon so he'll be at that Oregon game, but also we're going to get him here to Knoxville. And watch practice. And you'll even see him on the sidelines of our games as well."
Butch says his players and Vol fans should not read anything into Oregon's recent NCAA penalty saying, "..we can only control what we can control here at Tennessee."
The Vols travel to Eugene on September 14th. UT opens the season, August 31st at home against Austin Peay.
