Dooley: Vols make contact with Penn State players

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) So are the vols after any Nittany Lions?

Head coach Derek Dooley said Thursday that Tennessee has contacted some Penn State players.

The top Vol spoke to the downtown Rotary club Thursday
and while he wouldn't specify which players UT had contacted,
the coach said the team has had communication with
some of the players.

These players are now eligible to transfer without penalty in the
wake of the NCAA sanctions levied against Penn State yesterday.

While the Vols have improved their depth and roster, the coach realizes you can't have enough talent.

UT benefited from a similar situation signing Malik Jackson two years ago when Southern Cal was placed on probation, but this time the Vols aren't slipping in under the radar.

Coach Dooley said, "We don't have the luxury of being out in front because of the enormity of the scandal and everybody is on notice and they've actually gotten away with the procedures that you
have to deal with just so you're not inundated with paperwork. We've analyzed their roster. We've had some communications with some of their players and we'll see where it takes us."

The most coveted Nittany Lion, even by USC's Lane Kiffin, is running back Silas Redd, who rushed for over 1,200 yards as a sophomore.

He has two years of eligibility remaining.
