Knoxville, TN--(WVLT-TV), Announced recently was the schedule change moving Tennessee's 2012 football opener up by a day. The Vols will play a rare Friday game on August 31st against NC.State in the annual Chick-Fil-A Kickoff.
Friday's are usually reserved for high school football and going head to head against the Big Orange could present a problem for area schools and their fans.
Two of the top coaches in the area in Alcoa's Gary Rankin and Maryville's George Quarles aren't happy about sharing the spotlight, but understand it isn't something the SEC plans on making a habit,
The same holds true for Fulton head coach Robbie Black, who's Falcons are scheduled to play Austin-East that night. The AE game is normally a big money maker for the school. Fulton is also scheduled to debut it's newly renovated stadium that night. Coach Black says there are considerations to move the game to Thursday or Saturday.
Coach Quarles says as the home team, West high school would make the call on their August 31st game. He expects it to be played on that Friday night.
Whether it's the Vols or Prepsters, Friday August 31st is shaping up to be a big night of football in East Tennessee.
