Louisiana linebacker picks Vols

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Linebacker Otha Peters had been leaning to Tennessee for a while. Thursday the Covington, Louisiana product made it official when he told Vol coaches that he was committing to play his college football on Rocky Top.

"I just like everything about Tennessee," Peters said. "I like the coaches and the players. I like the atmosphere and the program. They bleed orange and white and now I do to. I just felt like it's where I want to spend the next four years.

"I would have committed sooner, but my mom was worried about the distance. We talked about it last night and she told me she wanted me to be happy and that she was on board with Tennessee."

Credit first year Vol linebackers coach Peter Sirmon for Peters decision. The two have formed a great bond and the friendship continues to grow by the day.

"That was another reason I picked Tennessee," Peters said. "I have a good relationship with coach Sirmon, coach Wilcox, and coach Joseph. Coach Sirmon is just one of the guys. He takes time out to check up on you and see how your doing. There is no faking with him. He's real and he's honest. He's not putting on a show for me."

Peters stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 225 pounds. He will camp at Ole Miss this weekend.

"I'm going to go with my friends because I told them I would go," Peters said. "I'm fully committed to Tennessee."

He'll take an official visit to Tennessee sometime this Fall.

Rivals.com rates Peters as a 3-star linebacker in the class of 2012.
