KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Derek Dooley has another opening on his coaching roster.
According to WVLT's media partner, GoVolsXtra.com, tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Eric Russell is leaving Tennessee for a similar position at Washington State. Russell has spent the last two seasons on Dooley's staff.
Russell was also a part of Dooley's staff at Louisiana Tech.
With the move, Russell reunites with Mike Leach. Russell was with Leach in 2009 at Texas Tech.
A native of Idaho, the move also gets Russell closer to his roots.
Per its policy on athletic department personnel relative to other opportunities, the UT athletic department would not comment on the report.
If Russell does leave Tennessee for Washington State, it would mark the second coach to leave the Vols since the season ended Nov. 26.
Wide receivers coach Charlie Baggett also left the program.
His vacancy was recently filled with the hiring of former Tennessee running back Jay Graham. Graham will be UT's running backs coach, a position he held at South Carolina last season.
