KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Local 8 Sports has learned that Tennessee linebacker Channing Fugate has asked for a release from his scholarship.
A source close to the situation has told WVLT that Fugate wants a transfer because he is seeking more playing time. WVLT has been told that the senior has already cleaned out his locker.
After Saturday's situational scrimmage, head coach Butch Jones commented on the situation.
"We're helping him," Jones said. "We've met a few times. He's weighting his options now, possibly transferring to another school."
Fugate played offense and defense in his time with UT. He also excelled on special teams, leading the Vols with 13 special teams tackles in 2012.
He has one year of eligibility left.
