No. 14 South Carolina tops Tennessee, 14-3

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Connor Shaw threw for one touchdown and ran for another as No. 14 South Carolina survived Tennessee with a 14-3 victory on Saturday night.

The Gamecocks (7-1, 5-1) remain in control of the Southeastern Conference's East Division.

It was their first game without star Marcus Lattimore, who suffered a season-ending knee injury Oct. 15 against Mississippi State.

Brandon Wilds had 137 yards on 28 carries and was the centerpiece of a methodical drive that ate up much of the third-quarter. He ran 11 times for 51 yards on the 20-play drive, and Shaw finished it off with a 5-yard touchdown run on a draw that gave the Gamecocks a 14-3 lead with 47 seconds in the third quarter.

Shaw was 10 for 18 for 87 yards and an interception.

Tennessee (3-5, 0-5) couldn't turn multiple South Carolina mistakes into points. Justin Worley finished 5 of 12 for 105 yards and two interceptions.

Coach Dooley lost badly at LATech and blamed it on "I can't recruit against LSU" He still can't recruit against LSU but he has more options now at least. The three First half Timeouts were directly attributed to the lack of communication between Worley and the Offensive Coordinator who was sending the hand signals in. Even Dooley went after the OC on the third Timeout. We play 13-14 players on Defense all game and they are not physically up to the task. We are weak (in strength) on the line (73 and 70 for USC had their way with us in 98 yd drive) and our offensive line cam't block for the run. but Pool needs to go back to HS where you run with your head down. Worley was not better than Simms on Saturday and he, Tennessee and Dooley were embarassed. Didn't USC QB play last year against Worley in NC HS Championship? What a difference a Quarterback coach can make in a Starter and a REDSHIRT wanna be. We don't go bowling this year but don't fire Dooley b/c of that. He may be able to coach, who knows but he can't live on his Daddy's reputation forever (was under 500 at LATech)
