KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Webb standout safety Todd Kelly Jr. says he wants to play football at Tennessee.
Kelly first made the announcement via his Twitter account early Sunday evening.
"I have officially committed to play football at the University of Tennessee #VFL," Kelly tweeted.
Kelly is regarded as one of the best safeties in the class of 2014. Rivals lists him as the 59th overall best player in the class.
"It just felt like the right time," Kelly told Local 8 Sports in his home Sunday evening. "I felt comfortable over there (UT). I was there this weekend and I just knew it was time to pull the trigger."
The senior-to-be could be the most sought after recruit ever in the Knoxville-area. He started receiving offers his sophomore year from virtually every major school in America, including Alabama, Southern Cal, and Florida.
While the relationship with Butch Jones developed later than the other coaches that are recruiting Kelly, it was an instant chemistry.
"Living in Knoxville, people thought it was an automatic lock for me to go to Tennessee, but that wasn't the case at all. I was actually look at some other schools really hard," Kelly said.
"Coach Jones and that staff, they really focused on recruiting me, talking to me, just really getting to know me as a person and I thought that was really important. There's a real family vibe there. It's just really important to me that they just really love all of their players."
Kelly said he still might take visits to other schools, but he reinforced that he "110 percent" committed to Tennessee.
Kelly Jr. is the son of former Vol defensive lineman Todd Kelly. The older Kelly suited up for Tennessee in the early 1990s.
Grades will not be a concern for Kelly Jr. A standout student at Webb School, Kelly currently maintains a 4.1 GPA.
