Vol fans rally on Rocky Top

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT-TV) -- UT students and Vol fans gathered
outside Gate 21 at Neyland stadium on Friday for the first ever
"Rally on Rocky Top." The idea for the event came just a few short days ago and was sparked by the UT Student Government.

And it turned out to be a huge success as hundreds of Big Orange
backers made their way to the amphitheater along Phillip Fulmer Way.

In fact, it was so impressive, several of those on hand told me and I couldn't agree more, that they'd love to see this kind of thing before every home game.

The UT band, Smokey, and the Spirit squad were on hand to fire up the crowd and welcome coach Dooley and his players, who made brief appearance before entering the stadium for a final walkthru before Saturday's showdown with the top ranked Tigers.

The appearance was memorable however as coach Dooley sang some Rocky Top and and spoke to the crowd, assuring them his Vols would give their all for 60 minutes on Saturday.

It's the Vols and Tigers at Neyland Stadium. If you're not going to campus, you be able to catch the game on WVLT (CBS) beginning at 3:30pm.

This was the first time in 13 years of attending UT football that I have experienced a PEP Rally on campus. It was great and the fans came oout and enjoyed it. My only concern is that it seems it may be a one shot deal and that is a shame. Some people I talked with connected with UT said we need to win to keep it up. I said "No you need to keep it up to build pride and support like other universities do with on campus pep rallies. We need our own "Game Day" on campus. I would also look to bring the event to Circle Park, possibly on Game day in conjunction with thw VOL WALK. GO VOLS BEAT THE TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
