KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- Tennessee junior linebacker Herman Lathers broke his ankle this week and is expected to miss playing time in the 2011 season, according to a university official.
Lathers, who will undergo surgery in the coming days, is the Vols' leading returning tackler. Only Nick Reveiz had more stops during the 2010 season.
Lathers started all 12 games he played in 2010 and was projected as the starter at weakside linebacker this season.
Lathers' probable replacement, Greg King, had surgery Friday to repair a torn meniscus, but is expected to be ready in time for fall camp.
