Knoxville (WVLT-TV), Your Sports Overtime team has learned that coach Dooley's Vols will not slip past the Music City Bowl. At the very least, the Vols will be playing in Nashville on December 30th.
Sources close to the program have told me they're darn near sure that Music City Bowl officials will not pass up on the chance to take Tennessee. That means the Big Orange will not be playing in either the Memphis Liberty Bowl or BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham, Alabama. You can cross them off the list.
Now there's always a wildcard in the mix and the league must also protect the loser of it's championship game. As a result, I've been told the Vols could possibly do even better than the Music City Bowl.
UT officials will have a better grasp on that and where they're headed by Sunday.
If it is Nashville, it'll be a first for the the Vols, who have never played in the Music City Bowl, which began back in 1998.
Speculation is Tennessee could face North Carolina out of the ACC. Ironic, considering the Vols opted out of their game against the tar heels next season earlier this year.
