Mattress Firm Foster Kids Shoe Drive

All Mattress Firm stores in Knoxville
All 15 Mattress Firm stores in Knoxville are hosting a shoe drive to benefit local foster youth and families. Now through Tuesday, Oct. 31, during normal store hours, Mattress Firm will accept new shoes and monetary contributions to help local foster children walk with confidence. At the end of the nine-week drive, all proceeds will be donated to Youth Villages Tennessee.

Throughout the year, Mattress Firm Foster Kids, a program of the Ticket to Dream Foundation, hosts six donation drives at its Knoxville-area stores to collect items and raise funds to help thousands of local foster children. Donations from each drive are distributed to partner organizations in the community.

Are you between the ages of 18 – 26 and would you like to get paid to intern at a local manufacturer? Register today and gain training and real-world, hands-on manufacturing experience with the possibility of getting hired permanently. Training will be in Dorothy Herron Room B at the Blount County Public Library. Spaces are limited and registration is required.

Classes continue from Monday, September 11 to Wednesday, October 25, 2017.

The program consists of three components:

1) 3 weeks of Workforce Readiness Training
o Training will run from September 11–29 from 1-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. During this time participants will receive training in skills needed to obtain and maintain a job in the manufacturing field. Participants will receive a $300 stipend upon completion of this component.
2) 100 hours of hands-on manufacturing experience interning with a Blount County manufacturer
o The Internship will be at a local manufacturer where participants will be paid $10/hr. for 100 hours, get hands-on job experience, and potentially get certifications such as forklift operation.
3) 2 half-days of Follow-up, Career Fair and Graduation
o Participants then return for Follow-up, Career Fair and Graduation on Tuesday, October 24th and Wednesday, October 25th, 1-5 p.m. both days. Participants will receive a $40 stipend upon completion of this component.

Volunteer Driven Program - Is In Need of Volunteer Drivers!
Knoxville-Knox County CAC’s (Community Action Committee) Volunteer Assisted Transportation program is seeking volunteer drivers to assist seniors and people with disabilities to medical appointments, shopping trips, beauty appointments, and other fun activities!
Professional training and vehicles are provided. Volunteers will drive agency-owned, hybrid sedans or wheelchair accessible mini-vans and receive training to include First Aid & CPR certification!
Volunteers are needed for weekdays, evenings and weekends. Drivers must be 21 years of age and have at least 3 years of driving experience.
Flexible scheduling is available to all volunteers.
