KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- More than 100,000 people are waiting for hearts, kidneys or liver transplants in the US. Hundreds have died waiting.

"I can't imagine how they feel. It's got to be disheartening to know there are so many people who need one and there's not enough to go around," said Billy Jarvis who got a new kidney nearly 21 years ago.

At 42, he's everything he hoped to be thanks to one selfless organ donor.

"It has changed my life beyond belief. I went from a 21-year-old man who was deadly ill to a husband and a father and a teacher and a coach. All because one young man told his family if something ever happened 'this is what I want to do,'" Jarvis said.

Those on the waiting list are waiting on a chance to live, and efforts to help save lives has now gone viral.

Facebook has partnered with Donate Life allowing you to sign up and share why you're an organ donor.

So far, it's been successful. Donate Life of Tennessee said it went from five to six people registering online each day, to more than 130.

Jarvis said this latest effort will make all the difference.
