Shopping will be a lot easier for people living in the UT area, but traffic could be a nightmare for everyone else.
Months ago the property off Cumberland Avenue looked like this, but it's changed now! Developer Budd Cullom says, "It's been a long challenge, but I'm excited to see them open just in time for back to school for the university."
The UT Commons Wal-Mart is ready to open for business.
Senior Michael Bradbury says, "Driving down to Gallaher View is a pretty long commute when you need something quickly. You can just shoot there instead of driving all the way down there."
Wal-Mart isn't the only store preparing to open its doors. Publix opens next month! Rachel Whitaker says, "Fresh produce is why I love Publix. The produce is really good now."
That's not all. There will also be a Vol Shop, a restaurant called Fresh to Order with patio seating, a Jersey Mike Sub Shop and other several other stores. There are three entrances to the shopping center off Volunteer Boulevard, Neyland and Kingston Pike. There's also a parking garage. Michael Bradbury says, "I think the parking garage will be good, but traffic by the strip is going to be congested."
Cullom says, "How do you feel as the developer knowing it's about to open? Ask me tomorrow at this time. Hopefully I'll breathe a sigh of relief."
The Publix is set to open August 28th. There will be a grand opening for the entire shopping center sometime in September.
