A LOCAL 8 WEATHER ALERT is in effect as rain showers change to snow showers tonight into Friday morning. While accumulation may be small or non-existent, (0 to 0.5 inches), where snow showers persist, it's expected to occur during the morning commute, which could slow down other drivers. Please take note. Winter Weather Advisories for the Smokies are in effect until Noon Friday for 1 to 3 inches of snow.
When do we trigger a Weather Alert Day?
When the forecast is potentially dangerous, we ramp up our coverage declaring a weather alert day. This may include dangerous conditions such as fog, high winds, heavy rain, hail, ice and snow flurries, extreme heat and unseasonably cold temperatures
The weather alert could turn into severe weather if conditions worsen.
