Career

At the age of 18, Haynes made his NRL debut with the Parramatta Eels against the Penrith Panthers at CUA Stadium on May 19, 2006. For the first time, Jason Taylor put him on the wing. The first season of Hayne’s career saw him score 17 tries in 16 games.

In the 2007 NRL Finals series’ First Qualifying Final, he scored the winning try against the New Zealand Warriors following a switch from center to fullback due to an injury to Luke Burt. Following Parramatta’s close victory against Brisbane in July 2007, Hayes was accused of diving to stop Brisbane’s momentum after a powerful hit from Sam Thaiday.
