Verdejo won his first fight in professional boxing by unanimous decision against Leonardo Chavez in 2012. He then defeated Marco Antonio Lopez to win his first title. With a technical knockout in the fifth round, Verdejo captured the vacant WBO Latino lightweight title.
The first time he defended his championship was against Ivan Najera on June 13, 2015. The fight ended in a draw after two knockdowns in the tenth round.
